GARON BROS JEWELERS SINCE 1903

217 West First Street, Duluth, MN 55802

Garon Brothers Jewelers has done business in downtown Duluth since 1903 when two immigrant watchmakers, Abe and Julius Garon, opened their first store at 213 W. 1st Street. Their business prospered, and by 1915 they moved to a larger location next door at 217 West First Street where the business they founded continues today.

In 1927, Julius Garon left the retail jewelry business to found a wholesale watch supply company. That left Abe to recruit a young jewelry salesman from Minneapolis, Mort Blustin, to join him and manage the store. During WWII, Mort joined Abe’s nephew, Herb Samuels, in purchasing the business. Mort’s son Robert entered the business after the war and he, along with his son Dave, purchased the Samuel’s interest in 1976. Dave and his wife Gail have run the business together since Robert’s death in 1983.

In an age of big box super stores where customers are expected to serve themselves, Garon Brothers Jewelers continues a retail tradition of store owners who know most of their customers by name and wait on them personally. Garon Brothers specializes in diamond and gold jewelry and enjoys continued business from many second and third generation customers. Another feature that separates Garon Brothers from many jewelers is that the store employs a full time goldsmith to do jewelry repair and diamond setting in house.
